For the first time in the history of Tbilisi Metro, Tbilisi Mayor's Office launched a project to modernize the sold Soviet-made trains. It is worth mentioning that on the entire post-Soviet territory, Tbilisi Metro is the first to have a completely modernized train fleet within the next few years. The trains are modernized in Tbilisi Train Repair Plant located on the territory of Electro Deport Gldani. The Plant has over 200 employees.

The presentation of the first modernized train was attended by President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili and Mayor of Tbilisi Gigi Ugulava.
